Mission Statement
Student Civic Engagement promotes and encourages opportunities for community service and service-learning that enhance student learning and advance community development while responding to societal issues and concerns.
Goals
- Encourage community engagement and bring awareness to social justice issues
- Facilitate opportunities for student development (both professionally and personally) through community engagement
- Create a culture of service at Georgia State at the institutional level and among individuals
- Become known on campus as a valuable community engagement resource
- Coordinate the community service component of the work-study program with local nonprofits who provide meaningful career exploration opportunities for Georgia State University students
- Create service initiatives which allow first-time participants to understand that multiple contributors are needed to address social issues and which allow ongoing participants to articulate skills and characteristics related to personal and professional growth
- Broaden student engagement by reaching out to underrepresented populations and to connect students with opportunities to build tolerance and understanding of people from different backgrounds
